Official Race Rules for the SPAR Women's Challenge Cape Town

All participants, regardless of entry type (10km or 5km), must adhere strictly to these rules as set out by the organisers and relevant athletic bodies (ASA / Western Province Athletics).

1. General Participation

  1. The race is run in accordance with the rules of ASA and WPA. Only licensed runners may be considered for prizes in the 10km event.
  2. Age restrictions apply: 10km participants must be 14 years or older on race day. The 5km is open to all ages.
  3. All participants take part at their own risk and irrevocably indemnify the organizers, sponsors, and partners against any loss, injury, or damage.
  4. Please note that this is a women’s event. Men are not eligible to enter the 10km run, but may enter the 5km run/walk in a supportive role. If a man attempts to use a woman’s race number, they will be prohibited from entering the start area or crossing the finish line, and will receive no eligibility for position or lucky draw prizes, and will receive no seeding preference.

2. Entry and Registration

  1. Entry fees are non-refundable, except in the highly unlikely event of a complete race cancellation, in which case a 50% refund will be processed.
  2. No substitutions are permitted. Entries are non-transferable between participants or between race distances.
  3. The official race number must be clearly visible and pinned to the front of the garment throughout the race.
  4. 10km Licensed Runners: Must wear their 2026 provincial ASA license number on their back. Temporary license holders must wear the temporary license number provided by the event.
  5. All entrants must ensure they have completed the entry form truthfully and accurately.

3. Seeding and Contender Eligibility

  1. Only athletes recognised as contenders will be eligible for overall and age category prizes. Contenders will start in the front batch.
  2. All club runners in the 10km will be considered as contenders for prizes and seeded accordingly.
  3. If any temporary licensed runner wishes to be considered as a contender, they must indicate this when entering.
  4. Walkers will be seeded to start after the runners.

4. Race Day Conduct & Course

  1. The 10km race cut-off time is 2 hours (finish by 09:00). The 5km is not strictly timed but participants should vacate the course by 10:00.
  2. No pets, bicycles, skateboards, or unauthorized motorized assistance are allowed on the course. Prams and wheelchairs are permitted in the 5km Fun Run only.
  3. The entire race course must be followed. Any deviation will result in immediate disqualification.
  4. All instructions given by marshals, traffic officials, and race officials must be obeyed immediately and without argument.
  5. Infringement of traffic rules may lead to disqualification.

5. Disqualification & Disputes

  1. A participant shall be disqualified for:
    • Failure to comply with any rules of the event or ASA.
    • Not completing the full distance of the race.
    • Obtaining an entry under false pretenses.
    • Tampering with the timing chip.
    • Unsporting behaviour or abusive language towards officials or other participants.
  2. Any dispute or protest must be lodged with the Chief Referee within 30 minutes of the finish time, accompanied by a fee of R300, which will be forfeited if the protest is dismissed.
  3. The decision of the race referee is final.
